Short Safaris

2 Days in Tanzania The Ultimate Short Safari

This compact 2-day safari is tailored for travelers who want a taste of Tanzania’s incredible wildlife within a limited timeframe. Despite its short length, this itinerary offers a rich and immersive experience by focusing on two of the country’s most remarkable ecosystems: Tarangire National Park and the Ngorongoro Crater. You’ll explore the vast baobab-studded plains of Tarangire, home to Tanzania’s largest elephant populations, and the unique volcanic landscape of Ngorongoro, which shelters the densest wildlife population in Africa.

Ideal for those beginning or ending a trip through East Africa, this safari packs game drives, scenic landscapes, and up-close animal encounters into just two thrilling days. Tarangire’s open savannahs, ancient trees, and seasonal wetlands provide ideal settings for observing elephants, giraffes, lions, and dozens of bird species. Meanwhile, Ngorongoro offers a dramatically different environment—an enclosed caldera where animals thrive year-round due to its permanent water and grass.

Whether you’re a first-time safari-goer or adding this experience to a longer journey, the 2-Day Ultimate Short Safari gives you high-quality wildlife viewing and cultural scenery with minimal travel time. The included lodging ensures comfort, while our professional guide brings every sighting and story to life.
Day 1: Arusha to Tarangire National Park – Drive to Karatu

After an early breakfast in Arusha, your professional safari driver-guide will greet you and begin your journey southwest toward Tarangire National Park. Upon arrival, you’ll start exploring the park’s diverse ecosystem, known for its picturesque baobab trees, open grasslands, and the Tarangire River, which attracts a variety of animals—especially elephants. During the dry season, the park becomes a haven for wildlife from across the region. You’ll have a picnic lunch at one of the designated areas within the park.

In the afternoon, continue your game drive as you track herds of wildebeest, zebra, gazelle, and potential sightings of lions and leopards. After a fulfilling day of wildlife exploration, you will exit the park and drive toward Karatu, a green highland town nestled in the Ngorongoro Highlands. Here, you’ll enjoy dinner and overnight at a charming mid-range lodge surrounded by gardens and local farming culture.

After breakfast, you’ll drive to the Ngorongoro Conservation Area and descend 600 meters into the Ngorongoro Crater. This vast volcanic caldera supports over 25,000 large animals, making it one of the most densely populated wildlife areas in Africa. As you explore the crater floor, expect close encounters with buffaloes, zebras, warthogs, hippos, hyenas, and lions. If you’re lucky, you might spot the endangered black rhino—one of the hardest Big Five members to see.

Your guide will navigate across various habitats—forests, swamps, and grasslands—offering diverse photographic opportunities. After a picnic lunch at a scenic spot near the hippo pool, you’ll ascend from the crater and begin the drive back to Arusha. The journey concludes with drop-off at your hotel or the airport, depending on your onward plans.
