Mount Meru Route Climb Overview
Mount Meru, standing at 4,566 meters (14.980 feet), is Tanzania’s second-highest peak and a spectacular destination for climbers. Located within Arusha National Park, this dormant stratovolcano offers breathtaking views of Mount Kilimanjaro and diverse wildlife encounters, including giraffes, buffaloes, and colobus monkeys along the trails.
The 4-day trek is an excellent acclimatization hike for those planning to climb Kilimanjaro or for adventurers seeking a rewarding experience in its own right. The journey, meandering upward, starts with a beautiful hike through lush forests up to the crater rim. Panoramic views, striking sunrises, and pride in conquering one of Africa’s most iconic mountains greet these trekkers.
Guided by experienced rangers, it ensures a safe route with immersion into the rich ecosystem of the park. Accommodation during the climb is assured in mountain huts, thus guaranteeing a comfortable rest each night. Mount Meru is less crowded than Kilimanjaro, hence making it a serene and intimate adventure for nature lovers.
